چکیده

Technical Note presented as a poster at the EMSE Workshop at Princeton, 7-8 Sep 2001 This technical note supplements the workshop demonstration by providing (a) pointers to issues in the literature regarding the correction of EEG (or MEG) recordings for blink and eye movement artifacts, and (b) a theoretical description of a spatial filter for removing ocular artifacts, with special attention to the problem of preserving frontal EEG (which is vulnerable to “overcorrection”).

Comparison of Different Linear Filter Design Methods for Handling Ocular Artifacts in Brain Computer Interface System

Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) record brain signals, analyze and translate them into control commands which are relayed to output devices that carry out desired actions. These systems do not use normal neuromuscular output pathways. Actually, the principal goal of BCI systems is to provide better life style for physically-challenged people which are suffered from cerebral palsy, amyotrophic l...

An Adaptive method to remove ocular artifacts from EEG signals using Wavelet Transform

This paper presents an adaptive filtering method for removing ocular artifacts in the electroencephalogram (EEG) records. The major concern in analyzing EEG signals is the presents of ocular artifacts in EEG records caused due to various factors. It has become necessary to design specific filters to remove the artifacts in EEG records. In this method, we propose an adaptive filtering method, wh...

Implementing a Smart Method to Eliminate Artifacts of Vital Signals

Background: Electroencephalography (EEG) has vital and significant applications in different medical fields and is used for the primary evaluation of neurological disorders. Hence, having easy access to suitable and useful signal is very important. Artifacts are undesirable confusions which are generally originated from inevitable human activities such as heartbeat, blinking of eyes and facial ...

Removal of Ocular Artifacts in the EEG through Wavelet Transform without using an EOG Reference Channel

This paper presents a statistical method for removing ocular artifacts in the electroencephalogram (EEG) records. Artifacts in EEG signals are caused by various factors, like line interference, EOG (electro-oculogram) and ECG (electrocardiogram). The removal of ocular artifact from scalp EEGs is of considerable importance for both the automated and visual analysis of underlying brainwave activi...

Improvements of Adaptive Filtering by Optimal Projection to filter different artifact types on long duration EEG recordings

Adaptive Filtering by Optimal Projection (AFOP) is an automatic method for reducing ocular and muscular artifacts on electro-encephalographic (EEG) recordings. This paper presents two additions to this method: an improvement of the stability of ocular artifact filtering and an adaptation of the method for filtering electrode artifacts. With these improvements, it is possible to reduce almost al...
